There is a buzz around Austin about a New-American style restaurant in South Austin!! Word is they serve small plates that are chef-crafted and highlight farm to table ingredients which are very popular in our city. Even my oldest granddaughter raved about this new spot when she went to dinner during her internship with Retailme.com this summer with her mentor entertaining clients!
VOX TABLE http://voxtableaustin.com
Executive Chef Joe Anguiano presents delightfully prepared dishes using fresh, seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. These small plates are influenced by the finest of American, French and Spanish/Basque cuisines. Executive Pastry Chef Allison Henschel decadent desserts are fanciful and delicious. Chef Joe comes from a long line of cooks; combine that with his culinary craft & philosophy and his extensive travels to Spain, Los Angeles and NYC and you have a recipe for success. Owner Vincent Manguino hails from Houston and a large family that was always surrounded by food and cultures. After a successful career in the tech industry that gave him the opportunity to travel and discover food cultures around the world, Vincent came to Austin and opened Vox Table.
Here is a sampling of what is on their cleverly named menu starting with the appetizers called ‘Provisions’: Cheese Plate consisting of wildfire bleu, saint rocco triple cream, drunken goat and pecorino toscano DOP. From ‘Fins and Shells’ there is Albacore Tuna Tartar with grated horseradish, crumbled egg, capers, chili oil, avocado espuma and potato lavash or try the Calamari Noodles with roasted corn, smoked tomatoes, Spanish chorizo, chili oil and corn nuts. From the ‘Hooves’ section there is Akaushi Shortrib’ with potato churros and hunter sauce and Lamb Loin with cannellini bean, piquillo pepper confit, roasted shallot and picholine olives. Dessert or ‘Sugar and Spice’ as it is referred to on the menu might be Fois Gras & Strawberries with crispy brioche, foie gras butter, strawberry marmalade and tarragon cream; or maybe the Chocolate & Chili with chocolate semifreddo, pedro ximenez pearls, chocolate soil, guajillo chili and almond tuile.
So, head to South Austin this weekend for the perfect restaurant to wine and dine ~ Austin style!
