Thankful Thursday ~ Heads above the crowd

On our recent Eastern Mediterranean cruise another wonderful port stop was Athens, Greece. We have been many times and walked the slick marble steps to the Acropolis, visited the Parthenon, Temple of Hephaestus and enjoyed shopping in the Plaka. It’s been smoggy with insufferable traffic when we’ve been before so what a pleasant surprise to find it was a clear, blue skies and warm but not unbearable and the traffic not near as congested.

The good fortunes brought by the 2004 Summer Olympics has shaped Athens into a vibrant city filled with spotless parks and streets, an ultra-modern subway, new freeways and everyone speaks English for easy navigation. They are undergoing huge difficulties with their bloated debt and inability to pay back their notes. Unfortunately I see many live for the moment thinking tomorrow will take care of itself.

We were standing at the base of Lykavittos (the highest hill in Athens) when I captured this picture of Athens. Love the view of Acropolis and the city from this trajectory.
