The walled city of Dubrovnik in Croatia is located on the Adriatic Sea and secures a top spot as a popular destination for many tourists visiting the Mediterranean. This was one of our port stops on our recent Eastern Mediterranean cruise. We’ve explored this area before but never tire of its beauty and marvel at the walls that run four to six meters (13.2 to 19.8 ft) thick on the landward side (much thinner on the seaward side). Protecting the city in ancient times with its turrets and towers is a sight to behold.
I managed to venture to the edge on the top of Mountain Sird, 412 meters high to snap this photo (little scary)! “Fort Imperial” still rests at the top and is the home to one of the fiercest battles of the 1991-1995 Croatian War of Independence, namely the Siege of Dubrovnik.
